Royal [Coffee] at the Market

Royal Coffee is already loved by many in the Phoenix area, but now they are much easier to get to, as their new space is adjacent to the (also new) Phoenix Public Market. It sets up the perfect sip-while-you-stroll atmosphere, and there is even open "meeting" space that connects the two.

Even though the dedicated space just for Royal is humble, they haven't skipped on the eclectic but cozy feel, with art, cool lighting, and the friendly (and funny) bean-roasting bandit, Hayes (who happens to own the place).  He'll also advise you on the best of the munchies available, which include fresh-baked muffins, scones, etc. daily, and also granola that will blow your mind. So will the coffee, by the way.

It's  a great place to meet up, and you'll know when you are nearby because of the scent wafting for blocks. They roast their beans outside, they say for temperature and space, but I say it's brilliant marketing.

Check out Royal at their new location: 14 E. Pierce Street, Phoenix, AZ‎

(The entrance is on the west side of the building, behind the market.)

  1. Great space, great location!

I have a request/suggestion though…. for the Saturday farmer’s market, why is it still in that horribly cramped tiny lot with uneven pavement and potholes?

I really, really think that the market should be moved just a few feet to the east – close off First Street from Roosevelt to Fillmore every Saturday for the Farmer’s market. This has a few benefits:

    1) you could then use the existing area for parking
    2) it would be a natural thing to get off the Metro at Central/Van Buren, walk through the civic space park, then walk up 1st street to Roosevelt and back on the Metro.
    3) it would spread the booths apart – festivals/fairs with booths more spread out (maybe even seating between) will attract more people, and give the vendors more face time with the patrons, thereby increasing sales. right now, booths are so close that people just fly by and move on to the next booth.

This should also be “the plan” for First Fridays (which should also just happen *every* Friday – then the booths could be left in place for the farmer’s market on Saturdays – BAM, two birds killed with one stone!).

So, with very little effort, First Fridays could turn into “Downtown Friday Nights” and the setup could be kept for the Farmer’s Market on Saturday, even if the vendors change.

Now we just have to come up with something for Sundays to keep the booths there for the entire weekend… either extend the Farmer’s Market to the entire weekend or ???

Keep fighting to have pets on laps or leashes allowed on the Metro… and tell the city you want the east side of Hance Park turned into a dog park – it would increase visitation immensely and discourage vagrants/crime in the area.

    Anything else?
