WEEKENDER
LOTS going on this weekend!
First Friday TONIGHT -
Be at the Phoenix Art Museum: (from their website):
Doors open at 6pm
Crossing 32nd Street performing a composition called "Drumming".
The piece lasts more than an hour and is divided into four parts: Part I for bongos, Part II for marimba and voice, Part III for bells and flute, and Part IV which brings together all the instruments. In constructing the work Reich uses a compositional device called phasing, a process that changes two unison parts by gradually shifting the alignment of one of the parts thereby creating new rhythmic patterns. Using this technique Reich has built the entire score on one rhythmic cell plus the phased transformations. As Drumming continually morphs into new versions of itself, Reich creates an organic mass of music that is mesmerizing, beautiful, and exuberant.
ASU students and alumni will also be on site performing contemporary dance sequences through the Museum.
No host bar.
More this weekend:
On Saturday, the Museum strikes again with "Arts & Flowers" in conjunction with the Southwest Flower & Garden Show, over 60 florists around the Valley create floral art corresponding with a piece in the art museum. See this from last year (see the bird?):
The 7th Avenue Street Fair in the Melrose District runs from 11am - 5pm and they close down the street for the car collectors, live bands, eclectic food, artisans and craftsmen all available for you! The boutiques will be flinging their doors open with special events, sales, and extra merchandise.
And The Heard Museum is having their (begin applause now...) 51st Annual Indian Fair and Market this Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am - 5pm. It's a truly a unique and amazing event and displays artists that only come to Arizona. Great gift ideas, too, by the way.
There's always the Downtown Phoenix Public Market on Saturday mornings starting at 8am and it's beautiful weather, so get outside!
